Students from two government schools in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district took a meaningful step toward global learning this week by participating in an international cultural exchange program with students from Cameroon. The virtual event, conducted via Google Meet, brought together 32 students from Girls Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Indora and PM Shri Government Senior Secondary School, Gangath.
Designed to broaden perspectives and promote cross-cultural understanding, the session allowed students from both countries to share elements of their daily lives—ranging from traditional foods and sports to local geography, customs, and social norms. The interaction offered students a firsthand look at life beyond their borders, encouraging curiosity and empathy while strengthening global awareness.
School representatives noted that the exchange went beyond simple introductions. Students engaged in discussions about cultural identities, compared educational environments, and explored similarities in community values. The collaborative atmosphere helped participants recognize the shared aspirations of young people across continents.
Mohan Sharma, Principal of Girls GSSS Indora, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in today’s interconnected world. He emphasized that cultural exchange programs nurture global citizenship, improve communication skills, and prepare students to engage confidently on international platforms.
“These interactions help students see themselves as part of a larger global community,” Sharma said. “They learn to appreciate diversity while finding common ground.”
The exchange marks a growing trend of schools adopting technology to build international partnerships and expose students to multicultural learning experiences. Educators in Kangra view this initiative as an investment in shaping informed, open-minded future leaders.
