A leaked version of Marvel’s first Avengers: Doomsday trailer has been quickly removed from social media due to widespread copyright takedowns, fueling speculation about the return of one of the MCU’s most beloved characters.
The blurry trailer, which surfaced online yesterday, offered fans a first glimpse of Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, played once again by Chris Evans. In the footage, Rogers arrives at a 1950s-style house on a motorbike, folds away his Captain America uniform, and picks up a young child, with on-screen text confirming: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.”
While Marvel has yet to formally announce Rogers’ involvement, fan speculation has been mounting. Reports from summer filming hinted at a similar house being built, and observers noted Evans’ physique appeared ready for action, suggesting preparation for his iconic role. Evans himself has remained coy about his participation, offering comments that neither confirmed nor denied his appearance.
The leak comes amid a series of copyright enforcement actions across platforms like YouTube, X, and Reddit, effectively removing unauthorized uploads. Marvel and Disney are known for aggressively protecting their content, especially high-profile releases like Avengers: Doomsday.
In addition to speculation about Captain America, the latest casting announcements for Doomsday have left fans surprised by several notable absences. Characters such as Spider-Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, and many X-Men—including Wolverine, Storm, and Deadpool—are reportedly not part of the movie. Some Asgardians and the latest Guardians of the Galaxy lineup also appear to be excluded, leaving the focus squarely on returning Avengers and the multiverse storyline.
Narratively, Rogers’ return makes sense within the MCU. His previous adventures concluded with a peaceful life in the 1950s after returning the Infinity Stones. Doomsday, as the finale of the Multiverse Saga, could provide a reason for Rogers to reenter the main timeline and confront multiversal challenges. Director Joe Russo has previously suggested that such a storyline involving Cap traveling back to the main timeline is feasible.
Rogers’ inclusion would also serve as a major draw for audiences, alongside the potential return of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, reinforcing Doomsday as a true Avengers-level cinematic event.
Disney is expected to officially release the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer this week alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash, with reports suggesting four separate trailers will be released over four weeks. If confirmed, Steve Rogers’ return would be a strong hook to excite long-time Marvel fans and renew interest in the Multiverse Saga.
