An Arizona delivery driver detained in connection with the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, has been released after several hours in custody without charges.

The man, who identified himself as Carlos, 36, said he was stopped by law enforcement while riding in a car with his wife in Rio Rico, a small community about 60 miles south of Tucson. According to Carlos, officers had been trailing their vehicle before he pulled over and was taken into custody.

“They held me against my will,” he told reporters outside his home after being released. He said he was not informed of the reason for his detention and claimed his wrists were swollen from handcuffs. No charges were filed.

Carlos said he works as a parcel delivery driver in Tucson and may have delivered packages in the area but denied any involvement in the alleged kidnapping. He also stated that he was unfamiliar with Nancy Guthrie and her daughter, explaining that he does not follow the news.

While Carlos was in custody, authorities searched his home, where he lives with his wife, children and in-laws. Family members said law enforcement broke down the front and garage doors during the search and confiscated cell phones and a vehicle. The car was later returned.

Carlos’ mother-in-law told local media that investigators showed her video footage of a suspect and asked whether she recognized the clothing worn. She said she did not and maintained that the family had nothing to hide.

Earlier Tuesday, the FBI released images of a masked and armed individual captured on video outside Nancy Guthrie’s Tucson home on the morning she was reported missing, Feb. 1. The suspect appeared to tamper with a doorbell camera, at one point placing flowers in front of the lens. A handgun was visible in a holster.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue their search for the person responsible for Guthrie’s disappearance.
