Slender Man Stabber Morgan Geyser Captured After Escape

Authorities have announced the capture of Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman convicted in the infamous 2014 “Slender Man” stabbing, ending a nationwide manhunt that began after her escape from a Madison group home.

The Madison Police Department confirmed late Sunday that Geyser was taken into custody in Illinois at approximately 10:34 p.m. The arrest came roughly 24 hours after she removed her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and fled the facility where she had been staying under supervision.

A High-Alert Search

Police issued an alert Sunday morning, sharing recent surveillance images of Geyser and urging the public to call 911 with any sightings. According to authorities, she was last seen around 8 p.m. Saturday in the area of Kroncke Drive with an adult acquaintance before vanishing.

Her disappearance triggered widespread concern due to the violent nature of her original crime and her ongoing psychiatric supervision.

Background on the 2014 Crime

Geyser, now in her early 20s, was just 12 years old when she and her friend Anissa Weier lured classmate Payton Leutner into a wooded area in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Believing they needed to kill to appease the fictional horror character “Slender Man,” the two girls attacked Leutner, with Geyser inflicting 19 stab wounds.

Miraculously, Leutner survived and was able to crawl to safety.

In 2017, Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide but was found not responsible due to mental illness. She was sentenced to 40 years in a psychiatric facility, with the ability to request conditional release every six months.

For the past seven years, she had been held at Winnebago Mental Health Institute before being transitioned to supervised living.

Investigation Continues

Police have not yet released details about where Geyser was found in Illinois or whether the acquaintance seen with her played a role in her escape.

Authorities emphasized that although Geyser is now back in custody, the investigation into her disappearance, escape route, and potential assistance remains ongoing.

The case continues to draw national attention, both for its disturbing origins and the troubling breach in security that allowed Geyser to flee supervision. Authorities are expected to release additional updates as the investigation progresses.
