The Powerball jackpot has surged to an estimated $1.6 billion after no ticket matched all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing, extending one of the most remarkable prize runs in U.S. lottery history. The winning numbers drawn were 4, 5, 28, 52 and 69, with a Powerball of 20, but none delivered a grand-prize winner.
With the jackpot rolling over once again, Monday night’s drawing is now set to become the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot and the fifth-largest lottery prize in the United States. The growing total has captured national attention, especially as it coincides with the holiday season, when lottery participation traditionally rises.
Powerball officials emphasized that beyond the excitement, ticket sales play a broader role. According to Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, every ticket sold contributes to public programs and services across participating states, reminding players that the game’s impact extends beyond individual winnings.
Should a player claim the jackpot on Monday, they will face a familiar choice: an annuitized prize of $1.6 billion, paid over decades, or a lump-sum option estimated at $735.3 million before taxes. While the odds of winning the jackpot remain steep at 1 in 292.2 million, many players are drawn by the possibility of life-changing wealth.
Although no one claimed the top prize on Saturday, the drawing still produced significant winners. Tickets sold in seven states, including California and Florida, matched all five white balls to secure $1 million prizes. Hundreds of other tickets won smaller but substantial amounts, ranging from $50,000 to $150,000, and a New Jersey ticket claimed $500,000 through the Double Play option.
This latest rollover also marks a historic milestone for the game. Powerball confirmed that it is only the second time the lottery has seen back-to-back jackpots exceed $1 billion, following a similar streak in 2023. The trend underscores how extended rollovers can quickly push jackpots into record-breaking territory.
Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET, and with the jackpot now at $1.6 billion, anticipation is expected to intensify. While the odds may be long, the promise of a dream-worthy prize continues to draw millions of hopeful players nationwide.
