Actress Evangeline Lilly has shared that she is beginning the new year facing a serious health challenge after suffering brain damage from a traumatic fall in Hawaii. The Ant-Man and the Wasp and Lost star revealed that she fainted and fell face-first onto a boulder, an accident that doctors have since confirmed caused a traumatic brain injury.
In an emotional Instagram post and video update, Lilly said recent brain scans showed that “almost every area” of her brain is functioning at a reduced capacity. While she described the diagnosis as both validating and frightening, she acknowledged the difficult road ahead as she works with doctors to address the cognitive decline.
The actress explained that the accident was linked to a long history of unexplained blackouts and fainting spells dating back to her childhood. Though she was once told the episodes were caused by hypoglycemia, later medical testing cast doubt on that diagnosis, leaving the underlying cause unresolved. Lilly has previously said her husband, Norman Kali, described her blackout episodes as moments where she appeared lifeless.
Following the accident and diagnosis, Lilly said she has slowed down significantly and prioritized rest, describing the end of 2025 as the calmest and most restorative holiday she has had in years. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her recovery, she expressed gratitude for the chance to heal and continue living fully.
As she begins this next chapter, Lilly says her focus is on understanding her condition, committing to recovery, and taking each day as it comes.
