Rams Survive Brutal Weather and Caleb Williams in Overtime Thriller

The Los Angeles Rams are heading to the NFC Championship Game after a grueling 20-17 overtime victory over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, but the path to victory was far from easy. A bone-chilling night, relentless Bears pressure, and a late-game surge from rookie quarterback Caleb Williams tested Sean McVay and his team to the limit.

After the win, McVay praised his defense and didn’t sugarcoat the conditions. “The guys just kept battling. They kept believing, and that’s what it’s about. There are no style points, it’s about being able to survive and advance, and we were able to do that in a tough, hostile environment, and it was cold as s**t today,” McVay said. He later noted that the freezing temperatures affected both teams’ passing games, leaving neither with a clear advantage.

Kyren Williams powered the Rams with two rushing touchdowns, while veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 20 of 42 passes for 258 yards and avoided turnovers. Chicago kept the game alive, forcing overtime when Caleb Williams connected with Cole Kmet on a desperate fourth-down touchdown in the final seconds of regulation.

In overtime, Los Angeles’ defense came through again. Kamren Curl intercepted Williams, setting up Harrison Mevis’ 42-yard field goal to secure the win. Key plays, including a crucial third-down conversion from Stafford to Puka Nacua, highlighted the Rams’ reliance on experience in the clutch moments.

McVay now prepares for his third NFC Championship Game since 2018 and his first since the Rams’ Super Bowl-winning 2021 season. While the weather will be milder in Seattle next week, the challenge ahead will remain formidable. After surviving Chicago’s cold and chaos, the Rams will need to sharpen their execution to advance to the Super Bowl.
