Michael B. Jordan delivered one of the biggest moments of the night at the 2026 Actor Awards, taking home Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role and beating out a star-studded lineup that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, Jesse Plemons and Ethan Hawke.
Jordan earned the honor for his powerful double role in Sinners, directed by longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler. The performance showcased his range and intensity, further cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s leading men.
Visibly surprised when his name was announced, Jordan accepted the award from Viola Davis and delivered an emotional speech. He began by praising his fellow nominees, calling them actors and people he deeply respects. “This ride has been unbelievable,” he said, expressing gratitude for being welcomed and supported by the industry.
Jordan gave special thanks to Coogler, crediting the director for pushing him creatively and creating a safe space to take risks and “find the truth” in his performance. He also acknowledged his Sinners co-stars — Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku — who later joined him in celebrating the film’s win for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
In one of the most heartfelt parts of his speech, Jordan thanked his mother, Donna, recalling the early days of his career when money was tight and she drove him back and forth to auditions in New York. He reflected on struggling to afford tolls and gas, a reminder of how far he has come.
Closing his speech, Jordan shared how meaningful it was to be recognized by peers who watched him grow up in the industry. The win marks a major milestone in his career, as he continues to evolve from rising star to award-winning leading actor.
