A total of 27 districts are being electrified under “Deen Dayal Upadhyay Rural Electrification Scheme.”
“The deadline for completion i.e. 20 August 2016 was extremely challenging, yet the company was able to complete the task well before deadline,” said Ashoka Buildcon, the contractor for the project. The Bihar government felicitated the company for completing the project on time.
A total of 9,653 villages have been electrified till date with Deen Dayal Upadhyay Rural Electrification Scheme” in the country.
Many villages in Bihar has yet to be electrified. Electrifying every house in the state was one of the key promises made by Nitish Kumar during the election campaign last year.
The “Deen Dayal Upadhyay Rural Electrification Scheme” was started by the NDA government in 2015 to ensure electrification of even the most remote parts of the country.
As of census 2011, there were about 18,000 villages without power in the country.
Out of these, about 10,000 have already been electrified. In his speech on Independence day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the remaining 7,876 villages will be electrified May 2018. The Power Ministry has also hastened its execution of the project.
