Uri Attacks: BCCI says no cricket with Pakistan

indo-pakFollowing the terror attack in the army camp in Uri which killed 18 Indian army personnels, the BCCI has made it clear that India will not play cricket with Pakistan in the near future.

BCCI president Anurag Thakur said, “There will be no question of playing cricket with Pakistan.”

The two countries last played in the ICC T20 cricket world cup which was played in Kolkata on the 19th of March earlier this year, a match that India won by 6 wickets.

The initial venue according to the fixture was Dharamsala, but was shifted to the Eden Gardens after much pressure from the Pakistan side sighting security reasons due to the sensitivity in the Himachal region.

There was no International cricket played in Pakistan from 2009 after the touring Sri Lankan team was attacked by in the ground by a group of terrorists which killed eight policemen.

Cricket returned to Pakistan in May 2015 when Zimbabwe played a T20 which the hosts won.

Pakistan has been home matches in Abu Dhabi with the ICC member countries reluctant to travel to the country which is home to several terrorist organizations.

India and Pakistan have a history of freezing ‘sporting relationships’ according to the prevailing political atmosphere. Cricket, being the most followed sport in the two countries, has often been used almost as an extension of political posturing by the two countries.
