NIA to probe Lucknow terror module case

Home minister Rajnath Singh said the National Investigation Agency will probe the busting of a terror module in Lucknow, reportedly inspired by ISIS.

Briefing the Parliament, the minister also praised the father of Saifullah, the suspected militant who was killed in an encounter yesterday.

Singh said the busting of the terror module was the best example of state and national agencies working together.

“The operation involved police from two states working together with a national agency to thwart a potential terror attack on the country,” Singh said.

National Investigation Agency is India’s premier homeland security agency and has jurisdiction over the entire country.

It was created to address pan-India threats such as terrorist networks, which, the government felt were not being adequately addressed by police agencies — which come under state administrations in India.

Rajnath Singh also praised the father of Saifullah, the terrorist who was killed in Lucknow, for refusing to take his son’s body.

“He said ‘how can he be mine, when he couldn’t be his country’s,” said Singh. “I want to put on the record the appreciation of the government and this house for the sentiments displayed by the father,” he added.
