Construction major Larsen & Toubro said the state government has given a Rs 1,387 cr contract to build what it called an ‘iconic’ bridge across river Krishna.
The bridge will have six lanes and a total length of 3.2 km, including 2.7 km of approach.
It will connect N10 road in Amaravati to Pavitrasangamam in Vijayawada on the other side.
The cost of the bridge is about three times the budget (Rs 450 cr) for the proposed bridge over river Yamuna between Faridabad and NOIDA.
L&T said it has also been entrusted with maintaining and operating the bridge for five years.
The town derives its name from the ancient Amaravathi town located in Guntur district.
The new capital city’s infrastructure will be developed in 7-8 years in phases, at an estimated cost of ₹33,000 crore.
The city was in the headlines when Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu chose to consult with S S Rajamouli, the director of film Baahubali, for suggestions on the overall look and feel of the place.
One of the first films to be ready will be the Legislative Assembly building, which is expected to be opened for business in March. It is supposed to rival the Vidhan Soudha, the Assembly building of neighbouring Karnataka, in grandeur.
