Toll collection resumes at Airoli & Mulund after 1 month gap

Residents of Thane will have to shell out more for driving to Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from today after the operator of the Airoli and Mulund toll plazas restarted toll collection.

Collection of toll at the two centers was suspended on Aug 21 for cars, SUVs, state government buses, school buses and other light and medium private vehicles due to repairs on a nearby highway.

MEP Infrastructure, which operates the tolls at Airoli in Navi Mumbai and on LBS Marg at Mulund near Thane, confirmed it started collecting toll tax on all vehicles starting at midnight on Sunday.

Toll collection was suspended due to long queues on the two highways that connect Thane to Mumbai and to Navi Mumbai.

The queues, in turn, were the result of traffic diversion away from the Mumbra bypass road. The road has been under repairs since May.

It is not clear whether the Mumbra bypass has been reopened for traffic.

The state government had taken the decision, and assured the operator of compensation for the losses suffered on account of the measure.
