Infrastructure major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) on Tuesday bagged contracts for its water and effluent treatment business from in Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Odisha.

The total value of the contracts is between Rs 5,000 to 7,000 cr.

The engineering and construction company secured two orders from the Government of Tamil Nadu for the execution of the Athikadavu-Avinashi project and for the construction of a new regulator across the northern and southern arms of the Coleroon river near Tiruchirappalli.

The Athikadavu-Avinashi project, which aims at managing water resources in the Kongu region of the state and alleviating the plight of farmers in the drought-prone areas of Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode districts is expected to benefit a total of 9,902 hectares of cultivable land.

It also bagged another order from the Vellore Municipal Corporation for providing an Underground Sewerage Collection system to the newly added areas of the corporation under the government’s AMRUT scheme.

The project involves providing a sewer network of about 280 km and the construction of sewage pumping and lifting stations. The scheme is expected to benefit 28,200 households in the corporation area with sewer connections.

The company also bagged two contracts in Jharkhand – one from the state government’s Water and Resources Department for the execution of the Garwah Irrigation Scheme and the other for Ranchi Smart City project from the Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Company Limited (JUIDCO).

Garwah Irrigation Scheme is aimed at recharging ground-water resources by filling 366 ponds and other water bodies in the Garwah district.

The contract from Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Co is for integrated infrastructure development works, which include waste water systems, storm water drainage, water supply and recycle water systems,transport and circulation (road), power infrastructure, smart street lighting systems,and land development in ABD area of Ranchi Smart City on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) basis.

In Odisha, it bagged two contracts, one from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department for the execution of an Individual Rural Water Supply Project in the Boudh area and the other from the state Water Resources Department for executing a Mega Lift Irrigation Project Cluster IV.

The Individual Rural Water Supply Project aims at catering to the drinking water requirement of 747 villages in the Boudh district.

It involves the setting up of 2,806 km of transmission and distribution pipelines and the construction of two intake structures, a water treatment plant of capacity 39.5 million litres per day, 133 elevated storage reservoirs of aggregate capacity 20.85 million litres and 16 booster pumping stations along with associated electromechanical and instrumentation works.

On the other hand, the Mega Lift Irrigation Project project includes execution of 9 lift irrigation schemes in the Mahanadi river for a cultivable command area of 12,900 hectares in districts of Sambalpur and Sonepur on a turnkey basis.
