Why Lenovo A6000 still beats Moto E 2nd Generation

Finally, the Moto E 2nd generation is all set to hit India on March 10, but disappointingly, the version that will be launched here will not have LTE.

Without LTE, the second generation Moto E fails to stand up to its biggest competitor in India, the Lenovo A6000.

Despite having the same price of Rs 6,999, the Lenovo A6000 is a far superior phone compared to the version of second generation Moto e being launched in India.

The only saving grace for the Moto phone is that it comes with Android Lolipop out of the box, while the other phone comes with KitKat.

The following are the key points of difference between the two:

LTE: The version being launched in India on Mar 10 does not come with 4G, and only supports 3G. In comparison, the Lenovo A6000 does come with 4G LTE.

DISPLAY: The Lenovo model has a 5-inch, 720p HD display, while the Motorola device has a 4.5-inch, qHD display. The HD model has 1 mln pixels on its screen, while the Moto has just 0.5 mln pixels. In addition, 5-inch displays are better for browsing compared to 4.5-inch ones, which tend to feel small these days.

PLATFORM: Both models are based on designs from Qualcomm. However, while the A6000 is built on the Snapdragon 410 platform, the E is built on the Snapdragon 200 platform, which is much inferior to the 410. The 200 chipset is built on a much older technology, known as ARM v7, while the 410 is built on the newer ARM v8 technology. The difference is that the 410 is about 40-50% more powerful than the 200 and also supports 64-bit software, which the other one does not.

Of course, there are some other differences as well, such as the A6000 coming with an 8-MP camera, while the Moto comes with a 5 MP one. The bigger phone also has Dolby Digital audio technology.

Of course, the Moto E 2nd Generation also has some advantages. Key are Android Lolipop and easier availability. The Lenovo phone is perhaps the most sought after model in India right now, and is flying off Flipkart’s shelves everytime a sale is held.

Getting hold of one is turning out to be tougher than getting hold of Mi3 was, six months ago. Though Huawei was supposed to launch a Snapdragon 410-based model in India for around Rs 8,000-8,500, that is yet to materialize.

Another key monitorable is Moto’s launch of Moto E 4G in India. That model will be priced at Rs 8,999 at current prices. That would make it uncompetitive against the Yu Yureka, which is based on the superior Snapdragon 610 platform and has an HD display to boot. It is possible that Moto will launch the 4G version of E only when hardware prices have declined and the model can be priced at Rs 7,999 or so.
