Huawei to launch rival to Xiaomi Redmi 2, Lenovo A6000 Plus?

Huawei, the Chinese giant that has so far been absent in the entry-level 4G LTE market in India so far, plans to make a strong debut in this segment early next month – taking on the Xiaomi Redmi 2, Moto E 4G and Lenovo A6000 Plus.

Like the Lenovo model, Huawei’s “cheap LTE phone” will also come with 2 GB of RAM. The Xiaomi model and Moto E 4G come with just 1 GB of RAM.

We do not know which phone Huawei intends to launch in India. In foreign markets, it has launched models like the Kestrel, Ascend G620S and Ascend Y550. However, all three phones come with only 1 GB of RAM.

However, the new Huawei phone will also have another advantage over the Lenovo A6000 Plus, it will come with Android Lolipop out of the box.

In other words, in terms of internal specifications, the new phone will combine the best of the other three models. Of course, there is the possibility that the new phone could have only 8 GB of internal memory, while the Lenovo A6000 Plus comes with 16 GB. We will have to await further details to be sure.

Another possible selling point of the Huawei phone could be its price. According to our sources, Huawei is indicating a price of below or in the range of Rs 7,000. In comparison, the Lenovo A6000 Plus (which has 2 GB of RAM), is priced at Rs 7,499. In fact, the Moto E 4G, which comes with only 1 GB of RAM, is priced at Rs 7,999 in India.

Like the other phones, the Huawei LTE model will also be based on the Snapdragon 410 platform.

Huawei is one of the world’s top manufacturer of smartphones in the entry-level and mid-range segments.

At a time when 4G, full HD phones used to be priced above Rs 35,000, the Chinese company launched its Honor 6 – one of the most advanced phones in the market at the time – at a price of just Rs 19,999.

However, after the initial aggressive moves, Huawei has been overshadowed by fellow Chinese vendors Lenovo and Xiaomi.

Huawei currently offers the Honor 4X, but it is priced at Rs 10,500, making it a mid-range phone by price, if not specifications.

Lenovo, which bought Motorola recently, and Xiaomi practically own the entry-level LTE phone market in India. While Lenovo has two offerings including the A7000 (price Rs 8,999), Xiaomi has the Redmi 2 and the Redmi Note 4G (price Rs 9,999.)

It is possible that Huawei could disrupt the entry-level LTE market in India by pricing its handset in the Rs 6,500 range, but the presence of 2 GB of RAM on the phone makes it less likely.
