Samsung Electronics India today announced the launch of two new 4G enabled smartphones in the J Series – Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7, making 4G experience more accessible and enjoyable for Indian consumers while expanding its LTE smartphone portfolio to 10.

The new smartphones from Samsung are a combination of powerful technology, innovative features and superior consumer offerings, reiterating the Company’s commitment to develop innovative products based on deep consumer insights.

Samsung has also decided to launch the devices online and has tied up exclusively with Flipkart, India’s largest online retailer. The Galaxy J5 is priced at INR 11,999 and the Galaxy J7 at INR 14,999. Both models can be pre booked on Flipkart from July 16 to July 22.

SAMSUNG SEES THE LIGHT

The launch of the J5 and J7 are significant for the shift to online.

For almost a year, Samsung had been hit left, right and center by newer Chinese entrants such as Xiaomi and Lenovo who were using the online distribution platform to cut costs and sell cheap.

Compared to Xiaomi, Moto and Lenovo models, Samsung’s phones inevitably came out looking overpriced.

With the move to online selling, Samsung has rectified that problem.

And the results are visible in the pricing too.

The J5 would have been priced around Rs 14,000 if it was to be sold through offline channels, while the J7 would have gone to the Rs 16,500 mark.

In fact, as was the case with Lumia 640, there is a high chance that the current prices announced by Samsung and Flipkart will be brought down going forward as costs decline.

As far as the models are concerned, the key surprise is that both come with Super AMOLED displays, which are not found even in the costlier ‘E’ series phones.

The specifications indicate that Samsung is getting really serious about the entry-level market and is in no mood to let any player, from China or otherwise, run away with it.
