Flipkart sale of Moto G 3rd Gen today, waterproofing confirmed

motorola-moto-g3-2015

Flipkart has launched the Moto G3, the 3rd Generation of the most successful mid-range phone in India at a higher-than-expected price for the lower-end phone.

There are two versions of the phone, one with a lower amount of memory, 8 GB storage and 1 GB RAM, and another with a higher amount of memory, 16 GB storage and 2 GB RAM. The lower priced phone is priced at Rs 11,999 and the 2 GB version is at Rs 12,999.

Both are waterproof.

Unlike what was expected, the higher-speced version does not come with a full-HD display, and instead both versions have only HD displays.

Flipkart is giving certain offers to sweeten the deal. However, given the specifications. the 1 GB version is certainly unlikely to sell much. 1 GB of RAM does not do any kind of justice at this kind of price point, given that most of the entry-level 4G phones today come with 2 GB.

Even the 2GB Moto G3 suffers from a low-resolution display when compared to K3 Note and Yureka Plus, both of which are priced Rs 3,000 less than the G3. However, the G3 has the advantage of being waterproof.

In fact, if an HD display is what you’re looking for, you can also consider the Lava Pixel V1 Android One phone, which has 32 GB of memory and 2 GB of RAM and looks better, instead of the Moto G3.

Not surprisingly, Flipkart is not organizing any flash sale for the phone and the models are available on demand.

You can check out further detals on Flipkart.

The reported huge leaps in specifications (2 GB RAM, FHD display, 4G) seen in Moto G3 over G2 had let to reports (including one on RTN) that the new model will be priced considerably higher than the ‘usual’ price range for the Motorola midranger.

The Moto G3 will inevitably be compared to the Lenovo K3 Note (made by the same company) and the Yu Yureka Plus, both of which carry practically the same configuration as the G3 and are both priced at Rs 9,999.

The G3 will have to depend on Motorola’s brand value, and some extra features found in the model, to draw buyers to it over the K3 Note and Yureka Plus.

One of the key differences between the K3 Note and the Yureka Plus on one side and Moto G 3rd Gen on the other is display size. While the first two have 5.5-inch displays, the Moto G3 has a 5 inch screen, which delivers a pixel density of 441 dots per inch.

Meanwhile German website Giga.de managed to take a snapshot of a listing at Swiss retailer that gave full details of the phone. You can see their snapshot of the listing here.

The listing confirms more or less everything that has previously been leaked about the G3, except in two key areas — waterproofing and internal memory.

The listing by digitec seems to confirm the 8 GB variant. Thankfully, Moto G3 does come with a MicroSD card slot.

Secondly, there have been various rumors that the G3 will be waterproof, and come with IPX7 rating. That has not been confirmed by the digitec listing.

However, most other key improvements – FHD display, 2 GB of RAM, Android 5 and so on have been, though there is are still leakers who claim that it would be a 720p display. Chances are there that there would be two models – one with a 720p screen and another with a full HD one.

The matter of ‘Moto Maker’ customization – which lets you tweak your phone using your own choice of colors and so on – has not been confirmed via the listing. However, the pictures of the G3 does seem to indicate that it will be customizable. Anonymous leaks have indicated the following color possibilities for the 3rd Generation device.

In fact, without such snazzy addons, it would be difficult to set the phone apart from the K3 and Yureka Plus.
