Amazon India to sell daily household items and FMCG

fmcgAmazon India today announced the launch of its Household Supplies store that offers a wide range of products including dishwashing detergents, household cleaners, laundry detergents, paper, plastic wraps as well as puja supplies.

These products will be delivered to any place in India.

The entry of the giant into this space could squeeze specialized online retailers who operate in this segment.

“Customers in general spend a lot of time each month, mostly during the weekend, driving to and fro to purchase household supplies and then carrying these bulky items to their homes. Often, they get limited by choice,” said Saurabh Srivastava, Category Leader – FMCG, Amazon India.

“Further, customers in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities are not only limited by choice but also access to imported brands and have to purchase whatever is available. With the launch of the new Household Supplies store, adding to the already existing wide range of general merchandise product, on Amazon.in, customers across India can now enjoy a hassle free shopping experience for all these products and also enjoy fast and reliable doorstep delivery,”

The Household Supplies store will be divided into Laundry & Detergents, Household Cleaning, Bathroom Cleaners, Paper Towels & Tissues, Dishwashing, Pest Control, Disposable Bags & Other Household Needs.

Customers can browse through the household supplies store and narrow down to products of interest using filters of brands, price, customer reviews, veg/non-veg origin and discounts.

“In addition to this each unit of the “Amazon Fulfilled” inventory is tracked to ensure that the product delivered to a customer has sufficient time before expiry allowing for timely consumption,” the company said.

The Household Supplies store is housed in the Health & Personal Care department on Amazon.in. The Health & Personal Care department on Amazon.in was launched in April 2014 offering nutrition, healthcare, body supports, mobility aids and personal care products.

With the launch of the Household Supplies store, the total offering now stands at 40,000 products from 5000 Indian & international brands, the company said.

Since its launch, the store has witnessed a tremendous sales growth to the tune of 400 % YoY and over 50% QoQ, it added.

Amazon has also launched a Sunday delivery scheme.

Brands covered by today’s launch include Vim, Surf, Ariel, Comfort, Downy, Domex, Harpic, Origami, Scotch Brite, Freshwrapp, Finish, Clorox and Bounty.
