Micromax Canvas 5 gets big price cut on eBay, Paytm

micromax-canvas-5

Micromax Canvas 5, one of the best ever phones launched by the brand since its inception, is finally available online and has debuted with substantial discounts.

The 5.2-inch device has been priced at just Rs 10,840 on eBay India, a discount of 10%.

The discount is even steeper on Paytm if you include cashbacks. Here, the phone is priced at just Rs 10,285 after accounting for a cashback of Rs 1,143. The cashback can only be used to make further purchases on the website or for recharging mobile phones and paying bills.

Meanwhile, Flipkart is offering Canvas 5 at Rs 12,949 and Amazon at Rs 12,500. Indiatimes Shopping has a price-tag of Rs 11,400.

EBay India, which is pricing the device at Rs 10,840, has already sold nearly 500 units of the Canvas 5 in a few hours.

ONE OF THE BEST

Micromax does not give the status of flagship to just any model, and the Canvas 5 really lives up to that label.

The phone performs excellently in terms of power and responsiveness and the 13 MP + 5 MP cameras on the device too have come in for much praise due to their excellent performance.

Moreover, the Canvas 5’s display has been praised for its excellent color reproduction and contrast levels.

Though the display technology is not AMOLED, contrast is as good as that found on more expensive handsets priced in the Rs 30,000 category.

One of the big advantages of AMOLED displays is that they are able to produce ‘pure black’. However, LCD displays struggle to produce clear black due to the leakage of backlight from adjoining sectors.

The cheapest AMOLED-display competitor to the Micromax phone is the Gionee S7, which comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD AMOLED display. The Android Lolipop device is priced at Rs 16,154 after cashback.

Despite tough competition, the Canvas 5 is all set to become one of the biggest hits for Micromax, and possibly for the industry, this year.

At Rs 10,285, the Micromax device is without doubt a better choice compared to the reigning king of the mid-range at present – the Lenovo K3 Note.

The K3 Note is cheaper by Rs 300. However, for the extra money, the Canvas phone offers much better looks and superior performance. The Lenovo K3 Note, for example, has only 2 GB of RAM, 1 GB less than the Micromax phone.

Similarly, the graphics processor on the K3 Note is Mali-T760MP2, while that on the Indian phone is Mali-T720MP3. However, the processor on both models are largely comparable.

Though the Lenovo K3 Note comes with a bigger display that is as good as that of the Canvas phone in terms of color and contrast, in terms of looks and build quality, there is no comparison between the two models.

The Lenovo model looks like a budget phone while its rival looks like a premium phone. In fact, very few people are able to figure out that it is indeed a Micromax device from a plain examination.

In addition, it is reported that the Indian brand is offering support for all three 4G bands including Band 20, which will be used by Reliance Jio and Reliance Communications to launch LTE services in around six months.

That said, Lenovo is not going sit idly by either.

The Chinese giant is all set to launch the new A7010 or Vibe X3 Lite in India in December at a similar price point. The new phone will come with premium looks, unlike the K3 Note.

Another important launch is Reliance Jio’s LYF range of phones. The company is expected to launch 4 new models of 4G handsets in the next 10-12 days, nearly all of which will be priced in the Rs 10,000 range.
