Is MARUTI SUZUKI IGNIS worth Rs 5-9 lakh? This is what co thinks

Maruti Suzuki India has launched its next-generation compact car IGNIS, starting at a price of Rs 4.6 lakhs before taxes in Delhi.

The automatic version starts at Rs 5.74, before taxes, in Delhi.

The diesel version has a starting price of 6.4 lakhs, while the diesel automatic starts at Rs 6.94 lakh.

The car, which will be sold only via NEXA premium showrooms, is Maruti’s high-end offering for those who prefer their vehicles compact.

“It combines unconventional design, seamless smartphone experience with AndroidAuto and Apple CarPlay, technological supremacy with AGS on petrol and diesel, advanced safety features as standard and personalization options, making it unique on every parameter. IGNIS at NEXA will help us expand our presence in the premium compact segment,” said Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki.

IGNIS is built on a new rigid platform, which, according to the company, should increase the safety.

The Company, along with its suppliers, has invested over Rs 950 Crore towards development of IGNIS.

The car comes with 98.5% localization, which means that 98.5% of the car is made in India.

EXTERIOR

The exterior is inspired by the inherent desire of the millennial to be distinct.

The wheels are placed at extreme corners, while the front has a single frame grille design, with inset headlamps.

“The chrome accentuation on the front grille and fog lamps create a perfect example of unconventional design,” the company claimed.

On the front are a couple of LED Projector Headlamps with LED running lights and fog lamps with chrome insert.

The vehicle runs on 3D trapezoidal 5 spoke all-black Alloy Wheels.

It also comes with dual tone exterior color options.

INTERIOR

The car boasts of a “floating layered dash board” design in black & ivory dual tone. The console panel is styled in a cockpit design.

The illumination in the speedometer is inspired by electronic dance music, the company said.

SMARTS

The infotainment system is designed to look like a tablet plugged to the car, in keeping with the vehicle’s overall ‘millenial’ look.

The infotainment system offers smartphone connectivity with support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link. These three technologies will allow users to connect a wide range of smartphones.

ANDROID AUTO

IGNIS is the first car in the Maruti Suzuki portfolio to offer “Android Auto” feature, expanding smartphone connectivity to android users. Android Auto allows users to control the multimedia functions via voice commands. It helps users get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music and audio books through a remarkable touch interface. Android Auto also helps in getting real time traffic update via Google Navigation and access to other supported Apps.

CABIN SPACE

The company claims a roomier cabin and “comfortable” ingress-egress.

“Front and rear have abundant head room and leg room, offering maximum usable space with the right proportions at all the places,” it said.

The boot has a capacity of 265 litre and can handle heavy and large luggage pieces, Maruti Suzuki said.

The boot space can be extended with 60:40 rear split, maximizing the utility space.

Special attention has been given to visibility, it added.

SAFETY

Maruti Suzuki IGNIS comes with dual airbags, seatbelts with pre-tensioner force limiter (PTFL) and ABS with EBD as standard fitments.

IGNIS is compliant for pedestrian safety, side-impact, and offset crash regulations ahead of regulation timeline.

It also gets ISOFIX Anchorage, a child seat restraint system, a delight for the premium urban car user, as standard in all variants.

POWER

IGNIS comes with two engine options—petrol fitted with the proven 1200cc VVT engine delivering power of 61kW @ 6000rpm with a torque of 113Nm @ 4200rpm.

The engine is tuned to offer better low-end torque, enabling better drivability in various conditions.

The diesel IGNIS gets the power of the acclaimed 1300cc DDiS 190 diesel engine delivering power of 55.2 kW@4000 rpm with a torque of 190Nm@2000 rpm.

“Use of pendulum engine mount system, effective use of acoustic insulation and absorption materials around the cabin and engine compartment ensure low NVH levels,” the company said.

It also comes with technologies such as “intelligent battery management, gear shift indicator, low-rolling-resistance tyres, which helps to increase mileage and efficiency.

IGNIS offers the celebrated AGS two-pedal technology on both petrol and diesel trim.
