Virgin Mobile launches HTC One V for just $200

Virgin Mobile USA has launched what has to be one of the most value-for-money, no-contract smartphone handsets in the country — the HTC One V.

Priced at just $200, the phone is available for about the same price as what other carriers charge for smartphones such as the Apple iPhone on contract.

Being a prepaid service, Virgin customers are not obligated to continue with a particular scheme or tariff for two years, as is typical of other smartphone offers in the country.

A “handset for under $200, combined with our no-contract Beyond Talk unlimited data and messaging plans starting at $35 per month, is an ideal alternative to postpaid offers and to other smartphones on the market,” said Jeff Auman, vice president, Virgin Mobile USA.

While not earth shattering, the HTC One V nevertheless packs decent specifications — such as a 1 GHz processor, a 3.7 inch display and a 5 megapixel camera. The high-end phones, such as the Galaxy S 3 and the HTC One X have displays that are about 60% bigger than that of the One V.

That said, they also cost about 3 to 4 times the $200 price tag that the One V comes with.
