Maruti Suzuki said it has opened booking for its WagonR 2019.
Customers can book the car by paying Rs 11,000 at any of the company’s dealer showrooms across India or via the company’s website.
The car is expected to be officially unveiled on January 23, even though the company did not reveal the launch date. It said the model will be launched in “coming weeks”.
The company did not reveal the pricing either. It is not clear if the booking amount will be refunded in case the customer finds the final details of the car, including the price, not to his liking.
The automaker, however, did reveal some details about the upcoming model of one of India’s most successful and affordable cars.
WAGONR 2019 FEATURES AND SPECIFICATIONS
First, said Maruti Suzuki, the new WagonR 2019 will be bigger and come with “enhanced comfort”.
As for looks and styling, it will come with a “sturdy and masculine look” with its tall boy design.
In terms of power, the WagonR 2019 will be powered by the “advanced K-series engine” offering high fuel efficiency and will also offer a 1.2 liter engine option, in addition to the existing 1 liter engine, Maruti Suzuki said.
WagonR 2019 will also offer variants with Maruti Suzuki’s Auto Gear Shift (AGS) feature — a lower-cost, more fuel-efficient alternative to automatic transmission.
The model will also feature what Maruti Suzuki calls a “SmartPlay Studio” which will not just play music, but also help the passengers surf news, get latest updates on weather and locate shops and restaurants.
Maruti Suzuki said the new WagonR has been developed its HEARTECT platform to enhance stability, strength and safety.
“The use of high tensile steel helps to improve overall safety, rigidity and NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) performance,” it said.
Safety features incorporated into all the variants of the car include an airbag for the driver, antilock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, front seat belts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors.
“Robust and energetic, the Big New WagonR is poised to appeal to the ever-changing aspirations of young Indian customers,” the auto maker said.
The WagonR has sold around 2.2 million (22 lakh) units, since its launched in 1999.
The car is popular among those who do not want to go for the smallest car in the market, but don’t want to spend too much on their purchase either.
It is also popular among those taller customers, as the entry-level Alto is considered too small for people in the range of 6 feet and higher.
