IGNIS 2019 gets added roof rails to enhance ‘road presence’

Maruti Suzuki today revealed more details about IGNIS 2019, the latest version of its small car targeted at millennials. The car has been in the news for the last two days after it was spotted at dealerships over the weekend.

India’s largest carmaker said the new version of IGNIS, a car that has not exactly set the charts on fire since its launch over two years ago, adds new safety features.

It also promised a ‘new look’ for the latest variant of the rather unconventional-looking car.

“To enhance the design, roof rails have been added in the Zeta and Alpha variants,” it said. The new design will “give it a strong road presence”, the company said.

Unlike ‘middle of the road’ designs like Dzire that tend to appeal to most people, IGNIS tends to evoke either a strong like or a strong dislike from people due to its unconventional styling, much like Maruti Ritz before it.

The company claims that IGNIS is designed for “those who love to emphasize their individuality through their cars”.

“For a generation that aspires to be `different’, IGNIS offers a blend of stylish exterior design, state-of-the-art technology and a spacious cabin,” the company maintains.

“IGNIS has established itself as a complete package for those who seek the unconventional,” said R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales) Maruti Suzuki India.

The 2019 IGNIS will come with new safety features such as a reverse parking assist system, co-driver seat belt reminder and a high speed alert system across all variants.

The IGNIS already comes equipped with dual front airbags, ABS and EBD, seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters and ISOFIX – child seat restraint system as standard fitments.

IGNIS is compliant for frontal offset, side impact and yet to be introduced pedestrian safety crash regulations, the carmaker added.

Launched in 2017, brand IGNIS is built on a new-gen rigid platform from Suzuki called TECT to enhance occupant protection.

“Today, IGNIS has changed the way customers look at the premium compact segment. We are confident that the updated version of IGNIS will be even more attractive for the premium urban car user,” Kalsi said.
